The Bonded Labour Liberation Front Pakistan believes that all workers deserve dignity, fair compensation, and safe working conditions. Our efforts focus on organizing workers, advocating for labour rights, and ensuring compliance with national and international labour standards.
Our Trade Union Movement
For mentoring and nurturing leadership among brick kiln workers, BLLF has established and patronizes:
- 18 registered trade unions (14 CBA Trade Unions)
- Brick Kiln Workers Federation Punjab
- Bonded Labour Liberation Federation Kasur
- 70 community groups comprising 8,500 workers including females
- 550 well-trained anti-slavery guards (Rakhwalay)
All trade unions include women executives according to law, with more than 33% female representation.
Key Workers' Rights Issues
Minimum Wage
Statutory revision and implementation of Minimum Wage Award in letter and spirit for all workers.
Social Security
Bringing all workers under the fold of social security and EOBI (Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution).
Healthcare
Our Medical Aid Cell provides health facilitation to brick kiln workers through qualified doctors.
Welfare Benefits
Provision of marriage and death grants from Workers Welfare Funds to avoid debt (peshgi).
Labour Laws and Implementation
BLLF works tirelessly to ensure implementation of existing labour laws and advocates for new legislation to protect workers' rights. Our efforts include:
- Monitoring District Vigilance Committees (DVCs)
- Ensuring implementation of labour laws across all sectors
- Facilitating issuance of social security cards
- Advocating for national and international labour standards
- Working with government institutions and judiciary
Skill Development and Empowerment
BLLF provides alternative skills to 600 female youth from brick kiln workers' families to provide them with alternate sources of employment. We have signed MoUs with well-known institutions including:
- All Pakistan Women Association (APWA)
- Fuji Foundation
- Technical Colleges
Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA)
BLLF has successfully facilitated the establishment of 14 CBA Trade Unions, empowering workers to negotiate directly with employers for:
- Fair wages and working hours
- Safe working conditions
- Access to healthcare and education
- Protection from arbitrary dismissal
- Annual leave and holidays
